After the recent flap over Taco Bell’s perceived insult to vegetarians, they decided to go with a different approach for their Super Bowl commercial. The spot features a bunch of elderly folks doing decidedly “young” things, such as getting tattoos, hitting the club scene, and, of course, eating tacos on the hood of a car late at night.

Now we’re not going to pretend we have never eaten Taco Bell while sitting on our cars, because we don’t have to: we haven’t done that. But we give this commercial decent marks for being a strong enough, simple concept executed with some humorous moments. But there are also a couple of scenes that are of questionable taste (the old woman and the young guy leaving the bathroom stall? Come on!). The spot manages to be caught right between charming and a bit exploitative, which is no easy feat in and of itself!
