It sure is taking carmakers a while to make the commitment to Super Bowl advertising this year, isn’t it? Kia threw their proverbial hat into the Super Bowl LI ring weeks ago, but until this recent news from Honda, no other automaker had done the same. Which is odd, because after beer, the Super Bowl car commercial is the next most ubiquitous type of ad.
This marks the second Super Bowl commercial for Honda in a row now, after they showed off their Ridgeline truck during 2016’s Super Bowl 50. Last year, the brand went with the tried-and-true talking animal approach:
No word on the creative plans they have for the 2017 Honda Super Bowl ad, but we’re hoping they go in a different direction with things. Like hey, maybe something closer to the touching and amusing 2014 spot Honda ran starring Bruce Willis?
