4. eTrade, “Talking Babies”

Oh, eTrade Baby(ies), how I love you.

It was a challenge picking the best eTrade Baby commercial — and to be honest, they’re interchangeable as far as their funny quotient goes. That is to say, every single one of them is just pure gold.

Also, it lets you say clever things around your friends like, “Ha! That’s why the market crashed! All the stockbrokers are babies!” And they’ll all laugh uproariously, and you’ll silently say, thank you, eTrade Baby, for helping my humor be relevant — and it will hear you, and it will nod its little amusing head and continue doing good work.

We hope eTrade brings the babies back this year. Almost as much as we hope Christie Alley and John Travolta guest star in them for a hilarious baby-talking romp.

3. Reebok, “Terry Tate”

I love, love, love Terry Tate, almost as much as I love, love, love this commercial.

Terry Tate’s timing is perfection, and the, “Hey, Janice!” line has been quoted by me and my friends for as many years as this has been out. It’s one of those commercials that gets everyone in the room laughing and there are very few commercials that manage that particular feat.

And, again, it’s all Terry Tate. It’s not a comedic actor the filmmakers handpicked; it’s a linebacker who easily out-acts 90% of other commercial actors.

Frankly, I’m still waiting for a hit film starring Terry and Jackie Chan.

not impressed… MOST AB commercials fell short of the mark. The Clydesdale ad was their best.
