2. Reebok, Defy Convention
Two Reebok commercials in a row? What can I say — they’re good.
Defy, defy, defy — is there a better message for the last decade? A divisive President replaced by the first Black President, wars, hurricanes, chaos and the blossoming of the Internet, the transformation of media, of interconnectedness, of technology — defy, defy, defy — Reebok absolutely nailed this.
The music is perfect, the clips are almost prophetically YouTubian, the whole commercial is uplifting, and it’s a breath of fresh air after the dozens of Bud Light commercials that have rotted our brains for a decade. It is one of the first and only commercials that actually make me want to buy the product. It’s one of the only commercials that makes me want to put on a pair of Reeboks and run naked through the streets screaming, Defy! Defy! Defy!
And I would too, if it was 2001 and I was in particularly defying mood.
