Ford – 2008 – Ford F-150 Tough

While we applaud the manliness inherent in swinging a truck around by its tow hooks, we have to wonder: who would build an entire facility specifically for swinging a truck around by its tow hooks? Ford would, that’s who.

Garmin – 2008 – Napoleon

This one is nice because it gets the job done and gets out. It’s not the funniest spot of the year but it gets the point across quickly, catching and holding your attention with a peppy little tune and a mystery to be solved (“is anyone driving the car?”).

T-Mobile – 2008 – Dwayne Wade

There’s so much funny packed in this commercial that we had to watch it four times. We think the best shot is of Barkley standing in front of his double-wide refrigerator, and the best line has to be “…and that’s why I don’t eat shrimp.” Instant classic.

Watch this one a few times to catch all of the humor.

Bud Light – 2008 – Cavemen

Cavemen seem to be a popular theme with a lot of companies around Super Bowl time, which kind of tells you what the advertiser’s think of their audience. This is a great example of how a simple idea can become a brilliant commercial. The best joke is the tag at the end.

Diet Pepsi Max – 2008 – Don’t Hurt Me

This commercial is almost enough to get us to start drinking Diet Pepsi Max. With added caffeine, ginseng, and a healthy dose of cancer-causing artificial sweetener with a creepy aftertaste, you’d have to be stupid not to drink this stuff.

The self-deprecating Chris Kattan cameo at the end is the cherry on top.

Bridgestone – 2008 – Squirrel In The Road

I don’t care how good your tires are or how much you love squirrels: trying to avoid running one over is a sure way to get someone killed. Maybe the message would have stronger if they’d put a baby in the roadway instead of a squirrel.

Pepsi – 2008 – Magnetic Attraction

Say what you like about his music, but Justin Timberlake has a great sense of humor and isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself and his celebrity status. He has two lines in this well-executed spot and nails them perfectly. Be sure to go back and catch his SNL appearances, pure comedy genius.

E*Trade – 2008 – Baby With Clown

The creepy talking baby is back, this time with a rented clown totally inappropriately alone with him in his bedroom. You have to give the baby credit for realizing how creepy it is though. There’s not nearly enough vomit in this one.

Under Armor – 2008 – Army

While stylish and well-produced, this is a really a pretty terrible spot. At a full minute it’s about 45 seconds too long, and we really don’t have any idea what it’s supposed to be for. Underwear? Shoes? Revolution? We’ll leave it up to you.

Audi – 2008 – The Godfather

Audi is your go-to getaway car if you’re a stylish stickman who needs a car that can really shove. The R8 is also apparently a homicidal maniac with a thirst for oil. We give the Audi ad team credit for returning Alex Rocco to his Godfather roots.
