Is Chrysler’s Ad Obama Propaganda?

chrysler

Chrysler’s Super Bowl ad starring Clint Eastwood has somehow become a lightning-rod for conservatives, who claim it was actually payback to the Obama administration for the Detroit bailout package. Now key members of the ad’s creative team have been found to not only support Obama, but have created Obama art and campaign materials.

The Lorax – 2012 – Movie Trailer

lorax

Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me) brings us what looks like a fairly loose interpretation of Dr. Seuss’ iconic environmentalism fable. It looks like this Lorax is a bit rough around the edges, but I guess if they wanted our opinion they would have asked. Danny DeVito voices the Lorax, and he sounds like a blast.

GE – 2012 – Building Something Big In Louisville

ge

Here’s another late-entry for us, from General Electric. This is along the lines of the Chrysler ads from the past two games, talking about American jobs and taking pride in your work. We don’t know if this will get anyone to buy a new fridge, but it’s a moving spot.

Battleship – 2012 – Movie Trailer

battleship

We’re not sure how we missed this one. Yes, that Battleship is being made into a movie, and will be released on May 18. Directed by Peter Berg of Hancock fame (as well as directing the Super Bowl spot for The Voice), it promises to be… loud, we guess?

Ford Peeved Over “2012″ Silverado Ad

chevy

Ford and Chevy’s parent General Motors got in a bit of a tiff over the apocalyptic ”2012″ ad featured in yesterday’s game, as we and anyone with half a brain knew they would. They sent a letter to GM, requesting the ad be pulled, which of course was declined since we all watched and enjoyed it.

10 Best Super Bowl 2012 Commercials

Now that you’ve had a chance to see them all and laugh, cry, or completely ignore them, it’s time for us to recap our picks for the top ten spots in this year’s game. There were a few standouts, a couple dozen that were mediocre, and a whole lot of chaff we wish we could unsee.

5 Worst Commercials of Super Bowl 2012

You’ve seen the game, you’ve read our top ten list (right?), so now we bring you the worst of the worst. If you watched the game then there are no big surprises here, except maybe that GoDaddy didn’t walk away with two of the bottom-five slots (that just didn’t seem fair).

Chase Quickpay – 2012 – Football

chase

This spot is good because it’s simple, direct, and tells a story. Set up a scenario where you need the product, then show it in action. If you can get a little humor or something surprising in the mix to grab your audience’s attention, so much the better.

Suzuki – 2012 – Sled

suzuki

Suzuki is back in the Super Bowl again, this time with a 60-second spot for their new all-wheel-drive 2012 Suzuki Kizashi sport sedan. There’s nothing earth-shattering about this spot, other than a totally insane level of cuteness. Come on: huskies, igloos, Eskimos… just look at the smile on that big guy’s face at the end when he tells his wife what happened to the sled!

GoDaddy – 2012 – The Cloud

godaddy_logo_01

We take back nothing we’ve ever said about GoDaddy: this commercial is just as awful as anything they’ve ever subjected us to. They’ve even added a QR code to the screen, as if in recognition of the fact that you’re looking for anything else to do besides watch the commercial. Oh, and the Pussycat Dolls.

Cadillac ATS – 2012 – Green Hell

175px-Caddynew

As much as we love to criticize car ads that feature shiny cars driving fast and generally being boring, something about this spot made us want to test-drive the new Cadillac. It was probably the tangible bitterness dripping from the narrator’s voice as he advises you to tell people “go to Green Hell”.

Awake – 2012 – Promo

nbc-logo

This new NBC looks promising: a guy sees two different alternate realities based on whether he’s awake or asleep, and he can’t tell the difference between the two. The commercial is boring and the music makes it sound like a 90s family dramedy, but the show itself bears a look.
