Top 10 Super Bowl Tech Commercials

Technology companies haven’t typically been a large presence during the Super Bowl, at least not compared with beer and cars, the two big daddies of Super Bowl ad time. Over the years, as technology becomes a greater and greater influence on our daily lives, this has slowly shifted and brought us more and better technology commercials that frequently rival the creative output of even the Great God of Super Bowl Advertising, Anheuser-Busch. Today let’s take a quick walk down memory lane and see some of the more memorable tech ads that have graced our televisions over the years.

Apple – 1999 – HAL 9000

Apple does the responsible thing and airs an ad in 1999 assuring unspeakable societal meltdown when the new millennium starts, thanks to Windows computers that can’t handle the changeover. You know what would have been really cool? Taking those sanctimonious d-bags down a few pegs by actually engineering a societal collapse. Wouldn’t they feel like jerks for trying to sell a few measly computers when people were dying in the streets?

What’s ironic is that every damn New Year’s Day the alarms on everyone’s iPhone’s fail to work, and none of the engineers in Cupertino seem to understand why. How the tables have turned!

1984 Apple – 1984

Imagine going up against the company that invented FUD (fear uncertainty and doubt) as a sales tactic.

Imagine doing this as a startup.

Now think about how much things have changed for Apple since 1984.

This commercial is undoubtedly one of the most memorable in terms of commercial impact (i.e. $s) and lifestyle changes over the years since it was broadcasted.
