Taco Bell has learned the hard way that vegetable lovers are not people to mess with. In response to withering criticism over their intended Super Bowl commercial’s apparent smearing of vegetables, they are pulling the spot and going with something else in its place.

The “insult” leveled against the vegetable (we’re taking them as a whole for the purpose of this post, from Asparagus to Zucchini) was along the lines of saying “Brining a vegetable platter to a football party is like punting on 4th Down and Goal.”

Doesn’t seem too harsh to us, frankly. We love a platter of crudité as much as the next football fan, but let’s be honest: it’s a game more catered to chicken wings and nacho chips than celery sticks and yogurt dips. We understand a bit of backlash, sure, but enough to have an add pulled from the Super Bowl? Less than a week before kickoff? Did not see that coming.

This is the ad that is rumored to have been pulled. Honestly, we do not think this is true… but hey, it makes good headlines! BUT, there must be some truth to this, given that we found this meaty bit of news on ABC’s blog here.

Besides, it’s not like this is the first time Taco Bell has made a commercial that some found to be of questionable taste…

Oh yeah, zero stereotyping goin’ on there.
