During Super Bowl XLVIII, Coca Cola aired an ad that caused a near-immediate uproar all across America. The commercial, mean to showcase the beauty of America the myriad people who call the country home, featured the iconic song “America the Beautiful” sung in a variety of languages. What the folks from Coke’s marketing team seem to have forgotten is that for many Americans other languages are the epitome of evil, especially when used to sing that all-American hymn.
What was supposed to be a sincere, touching spot instead led to outrage and vitriol. But hey, it was seen by tens of millions of Super Bowl viewers back in February of 2014 and has since been viewed tens of millions of times more online. A Super Bowl success, then!
